Twelve of the three hundred and forty in our care.
Orangutans are endangered and at risk of extinction. Habitat destruction results in hundreds of orphaned orangutans, who rely on our care every year.
Adopting one of them funds round-the-clock care. Their dedicated nannies teach them everything they need to know for when it is time to release them back to the wild. Adoptions can be paid annually or monthly, are tax-deductible, and can be cancelled at any time.
Where they live
Two sanctuaries and a peatland.
BOS Australia funds the work of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, which operates under an official agreement with Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry.
Mawas Conservation Program
Central Kalimantan
A peatland conservation area protecting the habitat of around 3,000 wild orangutans — protection at landscape scale.
Samboja Lestari
East Kalimantan
A reforested reintroduction centre built on degraded land, now home to rehabilitating orangutans and a sun bear sanctuary.
Nyaru Menteng
Central Kalimantan
A reintroduction centre where orphaned orangutans move through Forest School, learning to climb, forage and nest before release.
